COYD - Committee of Young Directors

Committee of Young Directors was formed by The Southern India Mills' Association during the year 2007 with the aim to groove the young entrepreneurs of the Textile industry to face the global challenges in the open economy and also lead the future textile industry.The Committee consists of 44 members in its fold.

The idea of forming Committee of Young Directors known as COYD had emerged at the second Managing Committee meeting of the Southern India Mills’ Association (SIMA) for the year 2007-08 held on 13th December 2007 at Salem.


The COYD would meet at frequent intervals at different Regions, discuss various issues confronted by the textile industry and give necessary inputs to the main Committee.  The COYD would organize need based management development programme, get together and various events, seminars etc., to develop the entrepreneurial skills.  Such programmes would help grooming young talents to lead the industry for the next generation.


The first meeting of the COYD was held at SIMA Conference Hall, Coimbatore on March 4, 2008 in which India’s formula 1 driver, Mr Narain Kathikeyan was the Chief Guest.


Mr Thyagu Valliappa of Sree Valliappa Textiles Limited is the Chairman of COYD.


Who can become a member?
Young Directors of textile mills in the age group of around 40 years are eligible to become a member of the COYD.  A membership fee of Rs 10,000/- and a one-time entrance fee of Rs 15,000/- will be collected from the members.
